A Story You Might Otherwise Never Hear

But First!

My dear friends:

Welcome to the 325th Edition of Stories Seldom Heard.  As I write SSH each month, you, the readers, are in my thoughts and prayers. I have been extraordinarily blessed to have met so many insightful, prayerful, and faith-filled people who thirst for the Good News of the scriptures, our tradition, and a deeper spirituality.

SSH began over three hundred twenty-seven months ago! Over the years, more than five thousand individuals have been members of this on-line community. It has been a long-loving relationship.  I want to thank each of you for reading, sharing, and journeying with me through these many years. It has been a privilege beyond words to walk alongside you in faith. Please know that you remain in my prayers, and I hope the stories shared will continue to bring all of us closer to the One whose name is Love, Mercy and Hope.

However, life has changed tremendously over the last twenty-seven-plus years. There are many podcasts, on-line magazines and newsletters.  I am sure you, like me, are inundated with emails each day.  So, it seems like an appropriate time to make a change. This might be the last edition of SSH, due to technical difficulties, but it is an important edition because this “Good News” story I am sharing with you might otherwise never be heard.  It is called the Sisters’ “Declaration of Commitment.”

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the “Declaration of Independence,” the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), representing over 250 sisters’ congregations, delivered a letter and our “Declaration of Commitment” on June 25, 2026, to each member of Congress.  Thousands of sisters who were not able to be present in Washington, DC joined in an hour of prayer in our local Mother Houses and convents.  United in Spirit and prayerful silence, we viewed a contemplative zoom Prayer Service prepared by LCWR leadership.

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious’ letter to Congress, our “Declaration of Commitment,” as well as the participating sisters’ congregations are attached. I think you will find both our letter to Congress and our “Declaration of Commitment” not only inspiring, but also firm in purpose.  I hope you will take the time to read and pray with us as we reaffirm our commitment to be attentive to our many vibrant ministries both within the United States and the world.

However, before I give you the link I promised, I have four enormous “Thank You’s.”  Thank you, Mary Ellen Green, OP, and Maria Hetherton, my two dear faithful Dominican friends, sisters and editors.  Thank you, Robert McGrath, my IT Wizard, who manipulated his personal schedule so he could be at his computer on the 1st of each month to be sure that SSH would arrive on time.  Thank you, Chuck Hilliard for posting SSH on Preachers’ Exchange and expanding SSH subscribers.  Thank you and my continued prayers for my support group and each of you.
